Abdoul Abdouraguimov (16-1) already owned the ARES FC Welterweight title but just captured his second belt fifteen pounds up at Middleweight. The Russian-born “Lazy King” now calls France home and the people have embraced him as one of their own. Outside of Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, Abdouraguimov is arguably the most popular fighter in France.
Abdoul was born in small town Nizhny Dzhengutai, Dagestan, Russia in 1995. He began wrestling at age 16 and transitioned rather late at 21, according to MMA Junkie’s interview with ”Lazy King”. His martial arts journey brought him from Russia, to Germany, finally to France where he settled in Nantes. The 27-year-old won his first belt in BRAVE CF in 2019. In his sole defeat, He lost the belt to the man he won it from, Jarrah Hussein Al-Silawi, a top fighter outside the octagon who has competed all over the globe at a high level.
In his adopted home country Abdoul has become a fan favorite for his skills on the mat and mic. His charismatic personality combined with his ability to speak four languages (Russian, French, English, German) makes him an enticing prospect on the UFC radar. The face of ARES FC, France’s top MMA promotion, just won his second title with the promotion, and social media is filled with speculation if Abdoul will be signed before UFC’s second Paris card set for September 2. If Dana White and those pesky matchmakers are smart, “Lazy King” graces the Paris audience with his debut on MMA’s grandest stage.
