Azat Maksum (16-0) is a 5’8 Flyweight who just signed a shiny UFC contract. He has been demolishing opponents across Europe and Asia, to the tune of twelve stoppages. No Contender Series for this beast, He signed straight to the big show and debuts in July at UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Bueno Silva.
Azat was born in 1995 in the same spot he still fights from, Kaskelen, Kazakhstan. It’s a city of about 60,000 in the Karasay district of the Almaty region and just a thirty-minute drive from Almaty, the Country’s largest city. He sided with Octagon Fight Team and DDV Team nearby where he lived and made a pro debut in 2017 out of the same camps. This man likes to hit the books as well, he has Master’s degrees in Jiu-Jitsu, freestyle wrestling, and some unknown martial art called Zhekpe-Zhek.
In four years from ’17 to ’21, Maksum made all regional fighters in his path into mincemeat. After that four-year period, Azat stepped up in competition singing with Brave CF and making a name for himself across Asia and Europe. Most recently, he returned to Kazakhstan and put himself in the title picture in the Country’s largest promotion. But before he could grab a hold of that title, the UFC came calling with a contract paid in full.
Azat Maksum brings a strong skillset to the table, tough for opponents to chew through. He’s a rangy flyweight at 5’8 who possesses KO power in the hands. He backs it up with a slick grappling game that has afforded him seven submissions over his career. Tyson Nam (21-13-1, 3-4 in UFC) will have his hands full on July 15 when he takes on “Kazakh” at UFC FN Holm vs. Bueno Silva.
