Gadzhi Omargadzhiev (13-0) might just have the greatest grappling of any Contender Series alum. Eleven finishes across 13 victories and most a result of his crushing crucifix attack. At only age 29, he is a Middleweight prospect to watch and he starts his octagon journey at UFC Vegas 51: Luque vs. Muhammad 2.
Gadzhi was born in Moscow, Russia in 1993 but grew up in nearby suburb Mytishchi. He now represents Golden Team out of the same city. They are a fairly large camp but no prominent fighters outside of Omargadzhiev. The Middleweight started his amateur career at 170 lbs. (Welterweight) but finished up 15 pounds with a record of 8-3. All that early experience paid off when he made the pro jump, still sitting undefeated with 11 finishes (8 by KO, 3 by sub).
On Saturday, 4/16, Gadzhi debuts in the octagon against fellow 2021 Contender Series Vet Caio “The Natural” Borrahlo (10-1). The Brazilian made good on two opportunities to impress Dana White and did so with a complete ground game. We’ll see who’s grappling reigns supreme in a big spot as the co-main event at UFC Vegas 51 going down at 8:30 PM ET.
