One to Watch at UFC 273: Darian Weeks

Darian Weeks (5-1) has a huge fight on his hands at UFC 273. Opponent Ian “The Future” Garry’s (8-0) hype train is full-steam ahead and the oddsmakers think Weeks has no chance as a heavy underdog. An upset would be monumental for the 28-year-old’s career and with a win Saturday, 4/9, he becomes a new top name at Welterweight.

The 28-year-old was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1993 but now calls small-town Sedalia, Missouri home for both living and fighting. He grew up wrestling and started his amateur career at age 23 in 2016. After competing in Amateur MMA’s most prestigious competition twice with IMMAF, he made the leap to pro in 2019.

Darian dominated his first five opponents, enough to earn a short-notice opportunity in the octagon against veteran Bryan Barberena (15-8). Although he lost, he showed up in a big way with some fans left thinking he won the hard-fought decision. His undefeated opponent Garry comes into this contest with a full head of steam after his debut knockout over Jordan Williams. Some holes in Garry’s game were found that night though and Darian Weeks has the skills to take advantage. It’s a fun fight in the main prelim spot on ESPN’s portion of the UFC 273 card and it all starts Saturday, 4/9, at 3 PM ET.
