Chris Barnett (21-6) doesn’t look like your typical MMA fighter. Evidenced by his unwavering happiness win or lose, and the teddy bear costume he wears while walking into the cage. He combines an imposing frame, 5’9 and cutting down to 265 lbs. the Heavyweight limit, with a unique radiance saved for only the most charismatic fighters we’ve seen.
The 34-year-old was born back in 1986 in Zaragoza, Spain. Barnett quietly made his way to Georgia, Athens to be exact, where he dove headfirst into the martial art pool. Tae Kwon Do became the foundation for his MMA game, debuting in 2009 with no amateur experience. He easily dispatched an opponent with 67 more pro bouts than him and continued his debut run with five finishes out of the gate.
For eleven years Chris bounced around weight divisions, fight promotions, and martial art disciplines. “Beast Boy” boxed, kickboxed, and grappled across Heavyweight (265 lbs.) and Openweight. The Fighter formerly known as “Huggy Bear” for the costume he wears out to the ring, finally captured his UFC contract in 2021 filling in on short notice against UFC veteran Ben Rothwell (38-13). The Prelim card houses this barnburner at UFC Vegas 27 and it all goes down at 4 PM ET.
