UFC Futures: Rustam Kerimov

Rustam Kerimov (14-0) is yet another undefeated demolisher from Dagestan.   There are surely some extra minerals in the water up in the mountainous region of the Russian Caucuses. Rustam has yet to earn the UFC’s calling but his skills are surely fit for the spotlight.

Kerimov found his combat base in the grappling art of Sambo.  He then took his treacherous takedowns to DagFighter camp in Makhachkala, Russia.  From 2012 through 2016, Rustam worked up the stiff ranks of Russian promotions ACB and later ACA.  His opponents combine for an overall record of 125-35-5, evidence he’s facing no tomato cans coming up.

Rustam Kerimov boasts an impressive all-around game, especially his proactive takedowns.  Kerimov’s strategy revolves around getting the fight to the mat and ending it with ground and pound.  He’s more of a defensive striker, not often throwing in combination to avoid being caught.  He utilizes creative strikes and entries to close distance for takedowns.  Look out for his left high kick to straight to single-leg attack, he uses it early and often.

Kerimov is still on the outside of the octagon looking in.  But the UFC brass surely has the ACA Bantamweight champ on a shortlist of potential prospects.
