One to Watch at UFC Vegas 61: Mike Davis

Mike Davis (9-2) might not have the record of your usual hyped prospect but his striking skills can give any ranked Lightweight problems. He’s 2-1 in the UFC but his two career losses are to currently ranked UFC fighters. After a short-notice debut loss, “Beast Boy” has reeled off two impressive wins and looks primed to extend his streak to three this Saturday…

Mike was born in Hudson, New York in 1994. He started boxing at age 14 because he was getting bullied at school for his small size. He turned to his neighborhood boxing gym, Cus D’Amato’s Boxing Gym, where Mike Tyson honed his craft. There he worked with the same man who coached in Tyson’s corner for years, Kevin Rooney. He picked up wrestling at school and at age 16 Mike signed up for his first MMA fight, Mom’s permission required.

Thirteen years later, the 29-year-old is a 9-2 MMA fighter and 3-0 pro boxer. He’s now taking his game to the next level in Orlando, Florida with Fusion X-Cel. He’s captured two victories inside the octagon, the former was a brutal knockout that called the referee into the spotlight for keeping the lopsided beatdown going. In his latter UFC contest, top prospect Mason Jones (11-2, then 10-0) was beaten down by “Beast Boy”. Now Davis can climb to three dubs in a row facing Viacheslav “Slava Claus” Borshchev (6-2), another relative newcomer to the promotion. It all goes down starting at 4 PM ET Saturday, October 1, at UFC Vegas 61: Dern vs. Yan.
