Hamdy Abdelwahab (5-0) is a 2016 Olympian in Greco-Roman wrestling. At UFC 277, “The Hammer” debuts in the octagon following a decorated wrestling career. The 29-year-old first took home silver in the 2010 Youth Olympics. He then took home gold in the African Cup in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. In the Olympics Hamdy competed with the last name “El-Said” and placed tenth for his home country of Egypt.
In 2019, Abdelwahab made his MMA debut at the amateur level and ultimately went 5 and 1, only loss coming from a bout he was winning but got stopped due to illegal strikes. Being such a rookie he might’ve not even known the full rule set yet. Just three years later Hamdy is a 5 and 0 pro fighter making his octagon debut Saturday, July 30th. He battles the most experienced fighter he’s ever faced in Don’Tale “Lord Kong” Mayes (9-4) and it all goes down on the prelims starting at 6 PM ET.
