Marcelo Rojo (16-6) delivers can’t-miss action whenever he steps into the cage to fight. Nine KO/TKO’s coupled with six submissions accounting for 15 of 16 wins, his last six all ending in round one. “El Pitbull” has a giant Spartan tattooed on his back because he exemplifies the warrior spirit, however, he hates needles!
Marcelo Rojo was born in 1988 and grew up in the Capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. He was a feisty sparkplug in his young days, finding fights at school, at halftime during soccer matches, or simply in the street. When he turned 16, he decided to act on his wild ways, enrolling in kickboxing then eventually MMA classes after seeing Mirko Cro Cop’s handy work in PRIDE. He’s been training ever since, staying true to his roots always calling United MMA Fight Center (Affiliate of Brazilian Gym Nova Uniao) in Buenos Aires his home.
“El Pitbull” earned his nickname from his longtime coach Fernando Martinez. Coach Martinez managed a kennel of Pitbull’s and Marcelo’s aggressiveness reminded him more of a rabid dog than a professional fighter. He’s taken a windy road to find the UFC octagon but has truly grown into a scary but smart brawler as evidenced by his record, 12 of 16 wins stopped in round one.
Rojo has expanded his game even more recently, splitting time between United in Argentina and Entram Gym in Tijuana, Baja, Mexico. During Quarantine in 2020 Rojo couldn’t find a fight, instead, giving boxing lessons around Mexico City. March 2021 brings Marcelo his first bout in two years. He was originally set to face Raoni Barcelos (16-1) two weeks earlier, but the Brazilian was forced out due to Covid. Now he steps up ten lbs. to Featherweight and Charles “Air” Jourdain (10-3-1) is eager to see if Rojo has any ring rust in his first octagon bout at UFC Vegas 21. Prelims begin at 5 PM ET.
