Umar Nurmagomedov (12-0) was set to join cousin Khabib on the UFC 254 card on Fight Island but his octagon debut will have to wait. Umar has been forced out of competition this Saturday, 10/24, due to a staph infection. Nevertheless, Nurmagomedov will make his UFC debut soon and his all-around game looks to be one of a future title contender.
The younger cousin of pound-for-pound best Khabib hails from Chelyabinsk, Russia, sitting on the southwest border by the Ural Mountains. Now 24 years old, Umar took one amateur fight in 2016 then jumped up to the pro ranks after his first MMA win in the same year. He has faced great competition coming up in Russa, all but two fighters he has faced have had winning records before fighting him. Like his cousin, Umar has never lost a fight and has a propensity for the choke, five total, and three tapping in round one.
Nurmagomedov’s tremendous skillset has already brought him stateside before, competing in PFL twice in 2018. He came out of one of America’s top promotion with flying colors and now looks for more smoke in the UFC. This is actually the third time Umar’s debut has been pushed back but hopefully, FOURTH time is a charm for the bantamweight. Look forward to this beast’s debut in early 2021, when the UFC aims to return to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
