One to Watch at UFC APEX 1: Spike Carlyle

Spike “The Alpha Ginger” Carlyle (9-1) loves two things in life: Jesus and fighting, and the big man upstairs must be happy because Spike is turning into a bonafide beast!

Carlyle grew up and was guided by religion into the sport of MMA. Echoed from The Bible, Spike is the Lion and his opponent is the Lamb. He says his job in the cage is to fight for Jesus, rather than fighting the man opposite him he is fighting their sins. Truly a unique perspective on the art of war from “The Alpha Ginger”.

Spike martial arts background comes from Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, winning National Championships in both disciplines before transitioning to MMA. The BJJ brown belt now trains with TJ Dillashaw, Cub Swanson and coach Mark Munoz at the Treinging Lab in San Diego, California.

With great training partners comes great success, Spike has used the experience to run through the regional ranks of California MMA. Before his sole loss (split decision), Spike started his career with four straight stoppages en route to the CCW 145 lb. belt.

Spike broke into the UFC taking a fight on two week’s notice at UFC Norfolk against Aalon Cruz. “The Alpha Ginger” vanquished all of Cruz’s sins from his seventh total finish in round one. On Saturday, May 30th, Spike looks for six wins in a row facing Billy Quarantillo (13-2) at UFC Apex!
