One to Watch at UFC Apex 2: Julia Avila

Julia Avila (7-1) the full-time geologist and Bantamweight UFC fighter aims to rock Gina Mazany’s world Saturday, June 13, in Las Vegas. “Raging Panda’s” schedule probably looks busier than just about every other person on the promotion’s roster, yet she still finds time to create and distribute her own Coronavirus masks for the public free of charge!

A truly inspiring woman outside the octagon, as well as inside with her extraordinary stoppage skills. She’s already collected four finishes, two in the very first round. A natural knockout artist can sometimes be harder to find in the women’s ranks; however, Avila aims for the kill every time that bell dings.

Born in Los Angeles, California, and now fighting out of Edmond, a suburb of Oklahoma City, Julia has faced a truly tough road to the UFC. She was under the impression that her first pro fight still was an amateur contest, surprised at the end of the night to receive a check! To add to the intrigue, she matched up against now 10th ranked UFC 135er Marion Reneau (9-5-1) and came out with a unanimous decision victory. Her third fight featured more of the same, dominating a decision win over the first UFC Flyweight Champ Nicco Montańo (4-3).

Now 1-0 in the octagon herself, Avila is still somehow behind both Reneau and Montańo in the rankings. Her only career loss professional or amateur came at the hands of a finger injury where she suffered a dislocation and compound fracture. Still smiling through it all, her toughness is only outweighed by her talent. She’s a can’t miss prospect at 135 lbs. and she fights on the second Fight Night card at UFC Apex facing late replacement Gina Mazany (6-3) on June 13!
