Sunday night, May 27th, Darren Till returns home to fight in front of his friends and family for the first time in his MMA career. The Muay Thai master from Liverpool, England earned his fighting chops in his hometown gym, the famed Team Kaobon. However, this gym wasn’t the only proving ground for then teenager Till.

At age 19, he found himself in the middle of the street fight and narrowly avoided his demise as he got stabbed twice in the back that night.  Recovering in the hospital his family and his coaches made the decision to send him to Brazil to escape his troubles in Liverpool. Till only planned to spend six months in Rio De Janeiro, instead he lived there for three and a half years.  Till found his happy place, as he was able to grow as a mixed martial artist and a person. Away from bad influences back home, he met his girlfriend and had a daughter. He also found his footing in the cage, amassing a record of 12 wins and 0 losses.

Now Darren Till has the undefeated record, the back-story, and the charisma to become a star in the UFC. After defeating Donald Cowboy Cerrone as the headliner for UFC Fight Night 118 in October, Till became a fan favorite overnight. The hype around him vaulted him up to the top of the Welterweight rankings, arguably the deepest division in the UFC. This Sunday, Till will face number 1 contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in a must-see title eliminator fight.
